Dark Brown

Another from the Sktchy app.

Sketched using a Dark Brown coloured pencil.
The watercolour paper resists because of it's slight texture and leaves a grain if you just glide your pencil across it softly...I quite like that!

A couple of quick sketches from a book entitled 'Baroque' I have. My art friend Joan and I finally decided on out trip destination together, we are going to Roma! This has brought lots of inspiration and I am enjoying exploring techniques and medium through my sketchbooks.
The 'Peacock Blue' Verithin pencil I used did NOT scan well :(

Julia Kay for JKPP

Prismacolor and ink in Moleskine Folio

You can view the reference I worked from HERE
This is the lady that got the party started, check it out HERE

I am having so much fun with these portraits!
You may have noticed that I have started working in my Watercolour Moleskine Folio rather than the A4 Winsor & Newton I started the project with. I purchased the Folio some time ago and the size (approx A4) combined with the landscape format makes it a little clumsy for use out and about so I've been waiting for the perfect chance to use it. This project is perfect for it because I sketch the portraits in the comfort of my own home!

Cat Amongst The Pigeons Exhibition

This was the first coloured pencil piece I ever created, I've blogged it before, I haven't created many coloured pencil pieces. Since finishing it, I have had it sat in my browser in a mount...today I collected a frame for it as I have finally decided to exhibit it.
'Bill' has been accepted into the 'Cat Amongst The Pigeons' exhibition at Haddenham Galleries, which runs from 3 April - 2 May, along with two other pieces I painted especially for the show.
I will downsize the photos and upload them in my next post.

Introducing the Derwent Floral

This is a Derwent Floral sketchbook, the smaller of two gifted to me at Christmas by a student. The pages are much like a Moleskine sketchbook only slightly thicker (great for copic markers). I have prepped some of the pages, at random, with decorative papers and stickers and am using it as an occasional sketchbook to which I add a spread now and then.
I also added a little 'bling' in the form of a floral diamonte on the magnetic cover.

The subject: a Christmas gift from my Dad; high platform courts in pink suede...Yum!

Still no scanner so photos will have to do, sorry!

Retail Therapy

Ink & coloured pencil in journal

One of the tops I purchased on a recent shopping trip and a visit to Mepal Outdoor Centre, where I treated myself to a full english breakfast.

I ended up at Mepal after visiting my favourite local cafe, Bluebells, only to find that Mary and Jean have taken early retirement due to ill health...I do hope they are ok, I shall so miss them and their wonderful food.

The breakfast at Mepal was delicious though and I guess the new cafe there will come in useful now.

Cherubs and Angels

Last week my good friend Joannie sent me an angel pin, such a thoughtful surprise.
The cherub is a figurine I purchased for myself some time ago, it's very special to me. Since the angel pin is so tiny, I thought I'd use my cherub to create an image for this spread.

Thank you Joannie!

Thing-A-Day - Day Eight

Thank you all so much for your kind concern over my arm.

I woke this morning in pain and decided to get it checked out by a doctor. It appears I have sprained/torn a muscle in my forearm, although I have no idea how! I was prescribed strong anti-inflammatories and, after just two, I am feeling much more comfortable. I tend to avoid pills as much as possible but in this case...Woohoo for drugs!

It's been a full day but I did still manage a journal page. I sketched from imagination again using a green profipen and watercolour for tone, the stars were added in coloured pencil to pull my ramblings and my sketch together compositionally.

On completing the spread I was intrigued by my colour choice, I believe we make these choices for a reason even if we are unaware of our instincts at the time, so decided to look up the 'meaning' of Green...

Green symbolizes: life, nature, fertility, well being
Grass green is the most restful color.
Green symbolizes self-respect and well being.
Green is the colour of balance, it also means learning, growth and harmony.
Green is a safe colour.
Green is favored by well balanced people.
Green symbolizes the master healer and the life force.
It often symbolizes money.
It was believed green was healing for the eyes.
Egyptians wore green eyeliner.
You should eat raw green foods for good health.
Friday is the day of green.
Green jade is a sacred stone of Asia.
Green contains the powerful energies of nature, growth, desire to expand or increase.
Balance and a sense of order are found in the color green.
Change and transformation is necessary for growth, and so this ability to sustain changes is also a part of the energy of green.

Tesco Cafe

My most recent visits to Tesco. I take along a dedicated small watercolour moleskine journal and sketch my way through a latte before going about my grocery shop.

2 for 1

I was feeling extra creative on Saturday and managed a spread in my journal early morning before I even got to bed. Later Saturday afternoon I had the house to myself and decided to watch one of my favourite films...with my sketchbook in hand, of course!
