Drivers Awarness Course
So....
I got my picture taken by one of those yellow boxes going 34 in a 30 zone on my birthday!
As a result I was offered the chance to avoid points and a fine by attending a course...so that's what I did and I took my sketchbook along.

Sophie T's, Yaxley, Cambridgeshire UK
This was my second visit to Sophie T's, (my first visit can be seen here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/anitadavies/8377920587/in/photostream/)
I was a little short for time on my first visit but enjoyed the tearoom so much I've been trying to get back ever since.
I called ahead and was told it was full but they would be able to seat me on the sofa beside the pianist, although it could be a little noisy. I LOVED my seat on the comfy little sofa! It was like having a stage view of the premises and Tim, the pianist, played wonderfully. I ordered the Sophie T special; A pot of tea (of course I had coffee) a sandwich of my choice, two scones with preserve and clotted cream AND a slice of cake. I couldn't quite manage the cake but the staff were happy to wrap it for me to take home. The atmosphere was wonderful, the staff were very friendly and took a keen interest in my sketchbook and Tim was a delight.
There is so much to sketch here, the upstairs looks very interesting, lots of antique bits 'n' bobs all over the place, I chose to sketch my lunch this time, the china was so pretty, but I shall have to make quite a few visits here with my sketchbook.

Peterborough Greyhound Stadium, Cambridgeshire. UK.
Celebrating my son Harrys 14th birthday back in March. We had a great night.
Noodlers bullet proof black ink and watercolour in Moleskine watercolour folio.
SOME THOUGHTS ON RECENT SKETCHBOOK CHOICES
The A4 Folio has taken some getting used to because of it's landscape format it opens up so wide! It felt very awkward at first, especially on location, but I am getting used to it a little better now. The paper has been a dream to work with after completing so many sketchbooks filled with cartridge paper.
I've been using larger sketchbooks recently in preparation for my Rome trip, where I would like to work a little bigger. I thought I would switch now so it felt more comfortable to me when I got there.
The Saunders Waterford HP I took to Cornwall was lovely but being more square in format meant that it also took me a while to get used to a new layout dimension. It does not fit the A4 scanner too well!
The Moleskine Folio opens so wide I am worried it would hinder me from 'whipping' my book out in some instances for a quick sketch. It scans a page well but not the double spread obviously, so I've been avoiding going across the stitching.
The book I am thinking of taking is a Saunders Waterford NOT A4 portrait book (Birthday Gift from my Son). I think it resolves the wide layout of the Folio while still allowing me a larger book. I am thinking of turning it Landscape way around so the layout is identical to an A5 just without the stitching running through each page. The beauty of this means the book would open UP rather than ACROSS my lap. I would still be using the A5 format I am so used to but there would be the advantage of having 2 of these spreads showing together when viewing AND the opportunity for a large scene across both pages if required. Being A4 means I can scan a single page easily, although double spread would require photographing or editing (which I am totally ignorant to! LOL!)
So, that's where I'm at so far in my sketchbook endeavours. Now if Moleskine would just make a PORTRAIT wc sketchbook, we wouldn't have these problems would we!

Holiday Inn, Peterborough UK
Sketched during a DriveTech course after being caught going 38mph in a 30 zone...that was until recently a 40 zone might I add in my defence!
An interesting 4 hours, although possibly the longest 4 hours of my life!
The Holiday Inn do a very nice latte but it didn't warrant the £3.25 price tag in my opinion...Shocking!

Elton Hall, Peterborough, Cambs UK.
Elton Hall only opens to the public a few times a year so I grabbed the chance to take a look around.
I finished up with a sketch in the yellow drawing room, a magnificent room filled with natural light.
