Yesterday was soooo hot!
A quick sketch from under a tree along Ely River before heading to Peacocks Tearooms for refreshments.

Parade Lane, Ely, Cambridgeshire UK

On Sunday I took Kinx (my little dog) to Ely for a walk along the river and a cream tea at Peacocks Tearooms

On the way I pulled over to sketch the view down Parade lane. Every time I go I hope to get into the layby which has just the view I want and every time there are cars parked in it.
Sunday I got lucky!

I also made my very first sketch video.
It's really short because I didn't realise I was pointing at the handbrake and not my sketchbook for the first half, so I had to edit a lot out. LOL!
It's odd watching yourself sketch, at least for me anyway. When I sketch I'm kind of tranced out so I found it really interesting to see how my pen moves.
Was really tricky holding my phone AND sketching though....will have to come up with a crafty solution to that one I think.

Peacocks Tearoom, Ely, Cambridgeshire UK

My favourite place to be!

Did you know Peacocks allow dogs?...Not only do they allow them, they spoil them too, offering dog biscuits served on a china spoon rest with your order!
After a nice stroll along the river, Kinx and I sat down outside for a cuppa and a snack

As we left, this couple in the queue (Yes! It's THAT popular!) caught my eye and I just had to get my sketchbook out again!

7:20pm...Back at Barton Rd carpark after dropping Harry at rugby training. Real race against the light before driving off for a coffee just before 8pm with my headlights on!
Summer has definitely faded.

Sketched from the Cathedral car park while waiting for Harry to finish rugby training. The nights are drawing in here in the UK now, which means my sketching time while Harry trains will soon have to go inside...shame! I enjoy this hour so much on a Wednesday eve, Ely is such a interesting place with plenty to sketch.

Sketched while waiting for Harry to finish rugby training. I was kept company by a duck and her ducklings, they sought refuge under the bench I was sitting on and didn't leave my feet the whole time I sketched....Aaaah!

...and a little sketch of a corner of my lounge.

I am back from my wonderful 3 night trip to Roma, catching up with my family, and will get around to scanning the work I did there as soon as I can find time...in the meantime, I have plenty of scans from the sketchbooks I was working in before my trip and am a little behind posting so I'll continue to catch up posting them.

I'd forgotten I also fitted in this spread on the Wednesday evening while taking Harry rugby training, so that's 4 spreads not 3 and what a fantastic house I discovered. I wish I had the time to add watercolour but it took me 40 mins to get to this stage and it was getting dark

Harry had rugby training so I took advantage of the time and location and drove to the nearby Peacocks for a nibble and a sketch...or two.

I have no idea what happened with the ink here...I thought I'd use Noodlers Lexington Gray ink to test it after the bullet proof black moved around a little when applying washes, usually I can rely on Lex.Gray to stay put when others do not but not this time....It just wouldn't dry!!! Even after I finished painting, drove to the Little Chef and finished my latte it wasn't dry, I had to blot it with a tissue so I could close my book to pick my Son up from training. I did the daffodil sketch earlier at home with the same ink and had no problems at all BUT I did re-fill my pen before leaving and I am wondering if it was because my Lex.Gray hasn't be used for a while and maybe I should have shaken the bottle? It's all I can think of to explain this.
It made my sketch rather challenging to say the least and I had to adapt my mixes etc to allow for the additional ink tone running into my colours but I am rather pleased with my outcome and felt I handled this unexpected turn of events well as I don't feel any of the problems I faced are apparent in my final spread.
