Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge UK

 

The Fitzwilliam in Cambridge is one of my favourite places to be, so much so that this was the second time I'd spent my birthday here!

It has such a wide selection of art and gems and it's completely FREE!

I especially wanted to see the 1816 Prints by Turner, Goya and Cornelius exhibit

There were so many lovely houses in Grantchester High Street when I was there on the Monday that I took a few photos with my my phone and sketched this one from my phone screen from the comfort of my sofa.
This is the last spread in my Zeta sketchbook, it was an absolute joy using this book!

I actually enjoy Harry's training sessions, they allow me some sketching time in a location that isn't my norm, at least they do in the earlier part of the season, it will soon be too dark to see anything and I shall resort to sipping coffee in a Little Chef.

The Vermeer exhibit at the Fitzwilliam was wonderful, I am so pleased that Joan suggested we see it together. Strangely the painting that captivated me most in the whole exhibit was not a Vermeer, although his work was a total treat to view, but a painting by Esaias Boursse entitled 'Dutch interior with woman sewing'....I could have stared at it in awe for hours.
The invigilator kindly allowed me her chair for a few moments so I could make this sketch, I couldn't resist the guy on the left with the flowing hair and jacket thrown over his shoulder, the two seemed to merge.

My dear friend Joan came for a few days recently so we could visit the Vermeer exhibit at the Fitzwilliam museum together. We spent our first day catching up and on the Thursday we headed off to Cambridge.
We popped into Browns for a cream tea late afternoon before heading back into the Fitzwilliam for another browse.

Discovered a new tearoom complete with small shopping complex at Burwash Manor. I didn't indulge in a cream tea on this trip but will return to do so...very nice location with some wonderful sketching opportunities for warmer weather.
This is a view from the tearoom garden where I indulged in another latte before heading home.
