Draw This

More of the wonderful Mara Cole, sketched from the replay of the live session on Draw This!

These are 1, 2 and 10 minute studies
I used one of the DR Ebony books I was given to test by DR for this set of studies

Family Tree

The big tree you see on the left in my painting was planted from an acorn by my Father; this is his back yard, it faces my door a half acre or so away. It has grown strong and outlived him as I imagine it will my entire family if left alone.

When we had to sell my parents house I collected some acorns and planted one of my own. I stuck in a potted plant in my porch and had little expectations.

It is now around nine inches tall, gaining height and sprouting leaves daily.
There is a long way to go before I dare transport it into my own garden but I thought, when I do, I might put it to the right of my Fathers' and block out the home my parents once lived in with new life, giving me a vision of family, strength, hope and tradition.

Draw This!

#FEFDRAW

I recently found a page on facebook that offers FREE life drawing sessions in LIVE time!
I am thrilled!
It's called Draw This
It's really difficult to get life classes here in the Fens so this, for me, is a dream come true.

The sessions include a series of 1, 2 5, 10 and 15 minute poses.
I sketched the model Mara Cole who was fantastic. I only got a little way through the 1 and 2 minute poses as I discovered it very late at night but the site leaves the LIVE video up so I will be going back to it along with others that I missed.
This was sketched in my current daily journal; an S&B softback Zelta but I think I will be allocating a separate sketchbook for these sessions as I filled two pages pretty quickly. I still have a bundle of those FREE DR books they sent me to test the paper in, they failed for a daily journal for me but would suit this project well which means I can finally make use of them!
Bonus!!!

Art Residency

I recently secured a three year art residency at Askham Village Community, a care and rehabilitation centre. My first day was mostly spent on introductions and paperwork but I took a quick moment to grab a sketch of the construction area outside.
They are in the process of expanding the village further, I felt this new beginning reflected my own new beginning at Askham and would be a great opening page to *my first sketchbook there.

*I'm using a Seawhite concertina sketchbook so I can exhibit the work I do in it with ease.
I'll be using a Watercolour Moleskine Folio, for longer studies, on just one side of the paper, so they can be framed if required.

Mixa Trixa

When my boys were young they used to mix lots of flavours of dilute into a glass, like a cocktail, before adding water...They called it a MixaTrixa

This spread is one of those!

Drivers Awarness Course

So....
I got my picture taken by one of those yellow boxes going 34 in a 30 zone on my birthday!
As a result I was offered the chance to avoid points and a fine by attending a course...so that's what I did and I took my sketchbook along.
