Wales 2017-10

A quick watercolour sketch and the line work of a complex landscape from a mountainous ridge...the view was breath taking!...all the views were breath taking!...I was out of breath a lot! LOL!

Wales 2017-3

The garden at the Old Mill looking out to the mountains

Wales 2017-2

The Old Mill I stayed in was simply beautiful, surrounded by mountains, nestled in 4.5 acres of woodland with the Ogwen river at the bottom.
I sat on a 20ft tree that had recently fallen to sketch this and felt so connected to nature.

Dykemoor

I've sketched this barn many times a) because I love it b) because it's less than a mile from my home, so it's easy to fit a sketch of it into any busy day!

Fenland Rape

Ok so here is the result of my AIM FOR MORE post.
I think I managed a happy sky and I think I 'imagined' myself away from the reference enough!

It's been a nightmare to photograph (grrr!)

Commission Complete!

I can now share what I have been working on in my spare time during the past few days.
The guy on the right is a good friend and my client. His Father, the guy driving the tractor, passed some time ago now and was one of the nicest men I've ever had the pleasure to meet.
Bless him!

I've been wanting to sketch this particular house for over two years now, it sits on the roadside that runs along the top of our drove and I pass it every day. Finally managed a quick rendition earlier this month with the rape field in full bloom.

Thackers Farm

Originally uploaded by Anita Davies

On Sunday, while my roast finished crisping in the oven, I set my mobile alarm for twenty minutes and headed off down the drove to the adjacent farm for a quick sketch on a spread I had prepared with watercolour earlier that morning.
I slipped a blob of white gouache in my watercolour palette and added it to my mixes for some opaque coverage in areas.
Just as my alarm sounded, the heavens opened and I was so pleased I had taken the car!

During last weeks class I gave my students a large reference and asked them to concentrate on composing thumbnails from one area rather than the whole. It was interesting to see where each focused their time.
