Roses Canvas - Session 1

I am currently working a canvas for the first time since February.
The heavy rain of the past couple of weeks threw me into the studio and it wasn't long before I got itchy fingers looking at all the blank, stretched canvasses surrounding me.
This canvas is 8x20 inches in size and the last of batch of ten purchased over a year a go.
My last roses piece promptly left the studio on completion so I decided it was time to replace it.
I am using acrylic ink directly onto canvas as I did with 'Jessica'.
This is the second time I am using these inks, the first for painting roses as a subject.

I'm really interested in watching this one progress. I went and looked at the "Jessica" piece -- wow!!!! Can't wait to see this!

Wow! I can see why the other rose piece didn't last in the studio and if the beginnings of this one are anything to go by it's going to have a similar fate. Can't wait to see it finished. Ink on canvas... what a great idea.

Looking forward to seeing more stages of this painting! Beautiful so far - as is the rest of your art!

Thanks for your kind words on my blog about my books. You inquired about Arches Printmaking Paper - it is a lightweight paper compared to the heavy watercolor papers and it is only lightly sized so that it is very absorbant - wonderful for printmaking and the painting I do to decorate papers for my book covers.

Though I have never used the Arches Heavyweight Watercolor Rag papers in my art journals, the paper is readily available where I live (unlike the papers I usually use and have to have shipped to me!) so I could easily make a book with that paper. However, I have read on another website that the Arches Watercolor sheets do not fold very well for art journals - which is why I've not used it before - though I have never tested to see if that comment is true! Do you have experience with folding of that paper into signatures? I'm sure some use it in their journals and have never had a problem! Thanks again for your comment on my site!

Hi Kristin.
I have never made a book in my life I'm afraid so I have no idea if the heavier wight arches would be appropriate. I believe Nina Johansson makes her own journals/sketchbooks (at least I am sure I read that somewhere in her blog) and she uses Arches Satin paper....I haven't heard of this myself before and am unsure what weight it is but she uses watercolour with it.
I'd really be interested in a small journal with a decent watercolour rag in, any chance you could ship to the UK?
