Holkham Beach - 17.10.09

On the Saturday, Joan and I decided on a beach-crawl. We wrapped up warm, packed our sketch kits and headed off to Holkham beach.

Cathedral Service

Took a trip into Peterborough on Saturday to purchase some pigment liners and managed to catch the last few minutes of the Cathedral service. I took a seat and pulled out my sketchbook as the sounds of the choir echoed through the stone walls...It was amazing!

Heacham Break 2009 - Day 1

I'm back from my 5 day/ 4 night break in Heacham along the Norfolk coast!
It's always difficult balancing being in the moment with my family and filling my journal but I did manage a few quick sketches each day.
Here are my pages from day 1.

Artistic Appreciation

On Thursday evening I gave a talk on Art Journaling to the over 50's club in the village, I was made very welcome and the group seemed to appreciate my many journals very much.
One of my students, Jane, came for her art lesson that morning, fresh back from a holiday in Spain, and gifted me a filligree pendant and chain she had purchased there. It is beautiful.

Retail Therapy

Ink & coloured pencil in journal

One of the tops I purchased on a recent shopping trip and a visit to Mepal Outdoor Centre, where I treated myself to a full english breakfast.

I ended up at Mepal after visiting my favourite local cafe, Bluebells, only to find that Mary and Jean have taken early retirement due to ill health...I do hope they are ok, I shall so miss them and their wonderful food.

The breakfast at Mepal was delicious though and I guess the new cafe there will come in useful now.

Hunstanton

Some very quick sketches of our recent day trip to Hunstanton. Harry and I ate lunch in the garden at The Lodge Hotel in Old Hunstanton before heading to the beach for a relaxing couple of hours together.

Wells Summer Break - Day 6

This is the last of my Wells break sketches, as always, I feel I could have produced more but there has to be a balance between family and art. The few pages I managed will hopefully provide Harry with a record for him to look back on in the coming years.

A Late Lunch In Ramsey

Monday morning was a little hectic so it was after one when Harry and I decided to ignore the rain and head out to Ramsey for a slice of cake and some duck feeding.
We stopped off at Choices cafe where I seem to remember seeking refuge from the rain last time I visited Ramsey. The rain fell from the grey sky while Harry and I tucked into our chips and cake and cleared just as we were leaving, allowing us to stop off at our favourite duck pond and hand out our stale bread before heading home.

Patience

This woman was trying to explain something to her Husband. Trying...very hard... without much success.

“The key to everything is patience. You get the chicken by hatching the egg, not by smashing it.”
