Criminal Minds

Love this show!
A quick pause on the TV and a Lamy Safari fountain pen.
Only three of the characters were sketched from the TV before I clicked play and created a few more characters from imagination to fill the scene

In The Gym

Took my sketchbook into the gym to sketch my Son training. I asked him to continue as if I wasn't there. He moved so quick!!! I was the other side of the bag, just out of reach...Just!

This was challenging, a little bit scary and turned out to be a great exercise for me too!

15 Minute Reflection

Speed sketching!

I know it's not a masterpiece, I know it's not my best work but............
As I put my paintbrush down and stared back at this spread I thought about what I was able to achieve in 15 minutes when I first started keeping a daily journal and how far I had come, how much easier the lines came, how much looser the paint flowed, how I didn't now have to rub out all the pencil lines I made over and over, how scary that first time drawing with ink was knowing I couldn't erase and how that fountain pen is now my favourite tool.

So, no, it's not a masterpiece but it is so much more than just two rather disjointed female faces to me!

Quick and Loose

I, of course, refer to the style in the title not the subject! LOL!

Pulse Victims

I sketched this spread while trying to digest the horrific news from Orlando Florida

Ramsey Cricket Club, Cambridgeshire UK

Yep! That's my little Italian Greyhound getting smacked across the head by a cricket ball. Thank God it bounced first and only skimmed the side of his head or I think it would have killed him!
Very scary!
Kinx was bruised and more than a little shocked  but otherwise fine.

The guy in the hat was walking around having a little chat with himself, bless him.

Amy

My latest Daler Rowney Ebony is not responding the way I am used to. The paper is super absorbant and reacting more like tissue paper. This has never happened before, I've been using these sketchbooks for ages. It feels different too, to touch, thinner.
I am gutted!
I love these books for many reasons and get through quite a lot of them in a year and generally order in batches to avoid big postage costs. Obviously, I am now worried about ordering a batch incase it's something new they have done with the paper that now doesn't suit my pen and wash activities.
So...

I got in touch with Daler Rowney on messenger on 8th June and they put me in touch with their paper lab. I explained everything to Donna Richards who said she would look into it.
I was a little surprised she didn't offer to send me out another book to experiment on, the ebony are very reasonably priced and £5 would surely be a small price for DR to pay in order to keep a customer who orders at least 15 of these a year!

I rang Donna a few weeks ago and was told she was looking into it.
I rang Donna again this morning and no one was in the office
(Yes, you are quite right, she hasn't been in touch with me once since I originally spoke to her on the 9th June)

So, it would seem I need to find a different journal to work my daily sketches into.

I cannot understand bad customer service

An update and a reveal one of my subjects

WWM - Day 22

Well 21 portraits in 21 days is crazy!!!...but I'm crazy enough that I did it!
PHEW!

For the next few days I'll be slowing down a little and working on a much larger piece.

This time I'm using a Fabriano Artistico traditional white 140lb hot pressed 14x20 inch block rather than my watercolour Moleskine Folio.
This piece is too big for my scanner so I'll be taking pics with my phone camera.

It's a double portrait and has taken a while to sketch out and transfer so I have only just started to apply paint to one of the faces.

Both subjects are quite unique, a first time painting for me in this 'area' of portraiture.
Let's hope I can pull it off!
