The Old Palace, Ely

WIP-The Old Palace, Ely

On Wednesday my good friend Joan travelled from Coltishall, to spend a few days painting with me. The first location on our agenda was The Old Palace in Ely. The palace is currently home to Sue Ryder Care and on Thursday they were holding a fundraising event entitled 'Paint the Palace'

It was a beautiful location to paint and both Joan and I were pleased we had decided to take our acrylics along for the day.

I was a little adventurous with the palette choice on my interpretation of the palace door and my piece is unfinished but I found it fun and relaxing to work out of my comfort zone...Until I went to change my water...After that the two side of my brain (yes, I have one!) battled with each other and I found it difficult to move forward which offered another interesting insight to an already enjoyable day!

I have taken photographic references but have since decided I will finish this piece without them, hopefully this will allow the energy and creativity I started the piece with to return without having to battle with the realist side of my brain.

I think your painting looks awesome already! Funny how the mind works, that stopping something physically can really stop the mindset we're into...

It can't have helped that at about 1 o'clock the grey skies suddenly caught fire - completely changing, I should imagine, the lighting of the scene. The painting in progress looks great. I'm sorry I couldn't have joined the 2 of you there! M had a lovely day, though.

Gosh, Anita, even in the small photo of the unfinished painting on the easel there is such depth and dimension in your treatment--it looks as if it juts out from the canvas. Good job.

lovely! I havn't tried acrylics in years and years. Your Palace painting is coming along wonderfully. I like your idea of working it just from memory to finish it. carry on!

You've made a lovely job of this Anita, I do love looking at old buildings and haven't as yet been brave enough to sit in public to paint one! Well done!:)

Had to quickly peep to see if you had added a post of our day at the Old Palace - and of course with the hours you keep its already there. Looks great. Please dont make it any more 'natural' as it has this lovely ethereal quality full of love and peace for the people who live there under the care of the wonderful Sue Ryder staff. Ive only just unloaded my 200 photos I took in those few days we had together!!!!! Great time together - thanks so much all of you for taking me into the bossom of your family.
