Studio Signatures

I spent a couple of hours in the studio Saturday afternoon, creating two new postcards for the PPP exchange and sorting through some drawers and folders.

I came across 'Bill', the cat portrait above and thought I'd share him with you. Bill was the first coloured pencil piece I ever created and I used a set of Derwent Signature pencils I had purchased to work on a commission. I took the commission on despite the fact I hadn't used coloured pencils before and can remember being quite pleased with my first results. I then moved on to the commission piece below, which was a success with the clients.

Since then, I've only really used my coloured pencils for enhancing my sketchbooks and journals, I especially love using them in my moleskin.

Oh my, your portraits are so convincing and appealing. You managed to do well on all those tough things, expression, skin texture, the folds and variations in the denim.

These are exceptional Anita! Really love the little girl. I'm sure the clients were overwhelmed with such a beautiful rendition of their little one.

Anita,

The cat in colored pencil is so lovely. Yet again, your work looks alive and rich! I'm going to have to find other words for describing your work pretty soon!
Kitty isn't for sale, is it?

(BTW - I'm sending off my postcard Monday, but it can't compare to the artistic ones you have already received!)

Oh Anita - how strange we both posted cats this weekend. So glad you found him in your tidy up and shared your expertise with everyone. ... and you know what I feel about your wonderful children's portraiture work. Its good to see some 'finished' pieces in your blog as well as all your exceptional quick sketches. How you can do both amazes me. I have no doubt that when the locals cotton on to your blog via your column in the Cambridge Times, you will be inundated with commissions for children's portraits. Will you need a housekeeper then??? and a chauffeur and a manager - ah yes I fancy the last one.

I admire all of your work, Anita. But there is something so mystically amazing about your colored pencil pieces.
