Tick Tock

Here are a few pages I made in my sketchbooks today and yesterday.
I started by sketching the clock on my lounge sideboard then took the sketch into the studio to play with some design elements.

While in the studio I phoned my friend Joan, who has just returned from five fantastic weeks in Africa. We chatted for over two hours and as we did my eyes fell upon an open book I have of Rembrandt's works. I started to doodle with a little acrylic and produced a version of 'Hendrickje Bathing in a River'.

Looking over these two sketches this evening I decided that I had TIME and something from a PAST master, to complete this trilogy I needed something NOW, so I set about a quick self portrait from life with waterproof black ink, adding streaks of acrylic and white hybrid gel pen for an extra modern feel afterwards.

Good Grief you've been prolific of late. Wonderful stuff and such a variety. Keep on keeping us guessing.

Gosh Anita, you are very prolific. Fantastic work. love the self portrait and the clock and everything really. You are very inspiring. I admire your tenacity with the self-portraits. I find it very difficult to look at myself for long enough to do a SP....ugh!! LOL
Well done you.

Thanx Jenny. I am drawing my portraits from life and unfortunately I have discovered, through close examination, that I frown alot when I concentrate...I am working towards a slight grin. LOL!

Thankyou so much Ronell!

Thanx Marie...Yes, I feel the same with the self portraits and I think that is half the reason they come out so bad at first...because we struggle looking at ourselves...I am getting used to seeing my ugly mug and examining it closely and have noticed improvements.
I think self portraits are more about mental barriers than artistic ones.

Oh my, these are really something else. Did I ver tell you that I wish I could be a fly on your wall when you work? Just so I can see how you manage your time. I am so very bad at that. I'm starting to think differently, tho. When I sit at my computer to check mail and then play a computer game, I think, Anita would be drawing.... But, really these are really head turning. Great work.

LOL...I love that I am a little 'Jiminy Cricket' on your shoulder playing with your concience and making you think about how you spend your time.
I guess it's a routine, I see every moment as a drawing opportunity and, actually, could do HEAPS more than I do. I try to grab 5 minutes here and there...outside the school after the morning run, waiting for appointments, while the potatoes boil when cooking dinner....My journal goes everywhere with me whether it likes it or not! LOL!
