After Leonardo
'Head of a woman with tousled hair' - Charcoal highlighted with chalk
A quick study of one of Leonardo's great sketches on paper that resembles the stuff they wrap your chips up in at the fish 'n' chip shop.
Trust me to lower the tone!
You can view more Leonardo studies in my previous post dated February 2007 entitled : The Da Vinci Mode

You mean newsprint? It's a good surface for charcoal, except that it it goes yellow very quickly. Your charcoal work is excellent.; you've got a great touch with it. I find it quite difficult to use myself...I get get smudges everywhere!
I have no idea Dave?
It's kindda yellowy now and it does accept charcoal very well so I think you could be right with your guess.
Thankyou. For me charcoal is like a key to my soul, I seem to be able to express emotion through charcoal much more than any other media, I am looser and more investigative when I use it. Perhaps because it is a live medium?...as in, you can always move it around and adjust. I'm hoping I will find a similar relationship with oils for the same reasons.
Yes, it is messy, black hands!....Why does your nose always itch at times like those?
Wonderful work!
Very nicely done.
