EDM Challenges 28 and 90

Continuing to wade through all the EDM challenges in my little A6 W&N sketchbooks, yesterday I chose no. 28 - sketch an appliance.
While waiting for the phone to ring, to collect my eldest, I decided to sit at the dining room table and make a sketch of my oven/cooker. I searched high and low to find a cooker with brass effect details when I purchased this, everything, everywhere seemed to be silver or chrome, a contemporary fashion...Me? I'm a classic kind of gal'!

Pen & watercolour washes

Challenge no.90 was to sketch something with wings so I chose one of my cherub ornaments. This particular one was a recent gift from my Mum and sits on top of my cupboard next to the window seat, in a rectangular cream ware sandwich platter, gazing into the lounge. He is adorable, very cute, and I fear my very quick, 5 minute, pencil sketch failed to capture this in his features. Still...I was quite pleased with shape I achieved on his legs and, of course, his wings in the time allocated, which, after all, was the challenge here!

HB pencil

I use HB pencil because I find it doesn't move around so much in my sketchbooks after time, one of the reasons I have refrained from using lead in my sketchbooks and chosen to work more with pen/pigment liners more recently.

Thankyou Margaret. The stove is actually straight, it's the scanning that's wonky!

Looks like an electric cooker...I'm more of a gas man, myself, can't be doing with electric cookers. Nice sketch, though, and I really love the cherub!

Thanx Dave.
The electric stove is not my choice, we don't get gas out here in the Fens. I'm used to it now but I'd swap in an instant if I could!

Great job on both, Anita!! I grew up saying 'cooker' for 'stove'. I was born in England but have lived in Australia since I was four, however, I still use the occasional English term for things. What a sweet cherub...nice, soft features.

Re. your comment on the graphite pencils moving around in your sketchbooks....do you mean that the sketch smudges after time? I have found a fixative stops this from happening though I may have picked you up wrong?

Oh and by the way, Jo from the Art Scavenger Hunt tagged me and because of that you've now been tagged, so blame Jo! Hope you join in for the fun. You'll need to visit My Sketch Blog for the rules!
Take care.

These are both just great, Anita. I really like the cooker and the way you used just a bit of color. That's very effective.

Serena - Thankyou! How silly of me, I didn't even consider a fixative for my lead sketches, I always associate fixative with charcoal for some reason...I'll give it a go!

Both of these are fantastic sketches. I think you caught the charm fo the little guy, even with only 5 minutes to do him in.
