"If a man walks in the woods for love of them half of each day, he is in danger of being regarded as a loafer. But if he spends his days as a speculator, shearing off those woods and making the earth bald before her time, he is deemed an industrious and enterprising citizen."
- Henry David Thoreau
I made my first sketches in my new small, moleskin sketchbook this evening. They are some planning sketches for a group of 8x10" acrylic paintings I shall be working on. I decided to use my inktense pencils and I plan to add water to the sketches in the morning but thought it would be fun to post the 'dry' version here first before sharing the watered versions...a before and after!
The sketches serve to study composition and colour and are drawn in 10x8 cm boxes to mimic the canvas size

I love the colours. I must give those inktense pencils a try. I really like these...look forward to seeing the wetted versions!
Hi Dave - Thankyou!
How did it go at the weekend?...Did you manage to get out and sketch at all?
Yes, I did, thanks. It was fun, though the results were nothing like yours!
Dave I am sure you're being modest. The main thing is that you enjoy it, I LOVE my time spent walking about with my sketchbooks.
Is there a link where I can view your sketches at all?
I haven't put any of this weekend's stuff online anywhere (and I probably won't because they really aren't very interesting, but as you say it's the enjoyment of doing them that's important), but you can see some things I've done on my blog (http://mothsblog.blogspot.com).
When are you going to put more things on your sketchbook blog?
I'll go take a look at your blog, thanks Dave!
I have just updated my Location sketchbook blog with my weekend sketches from Clarice House Residential Spa...YUM!...Thanx for your interest.
Anita - if you haven't picked up a brush yet I'd be wary. Moleskines don't like water. You'll probably get beading
Katherine I've used watercolour in the moleskin before with no problems, perhaps because I use watercolour/inktense pencils which alter the paper surface.
