Finally collected my camera and can now share a sneak peek of the commission I've been working on.
Matching the colours in this guys fur has been a challenge, believe it or not there is purple and two blues used in the mixes here! The graduations between each tone are very subtle.
It's moving along nicely though, since I did some Christmas shopping and put panic into it's place, I am now able to concentrate on the job in hand.

I can't wait to see this finished, the colour around the eyes looks spot on! It's fantastic!I went shopping today and stopped for a coffee, I couldn't sketch - too self concious but took some discreet pics on my phone to work on. I will get there!!!
I would imagine it would depend on the light situation or whatever you want it to be--they are so tightly draped on thier bones etc---that they show many undulations...I'd have to not think 'dog' and concentrate like crazy---looks very good at this point!
OMG it looks almost real, you are a fantastic artist. I can't wait to see it all...
Oh Anita, I have a chocolate lab and can't wait to see this finished - I can see you have captured his sweet eye!
Beautiful! Fur is so difficult to do.
Wow Anita what a fantastic colour mix - it looks so real. The owner is going to be gobsmacked when its finished. You are brilliant with your animal commissions.
Dear Anita, I am totally in awe of your abilities! I would LOVE to learn how to draw and paint like you do!!! mackmaluv@yahoo.com
Beautiful natural coat, Anita and I keep coming back to the eye. It is so real and alert. You are going to have a very happy client.
I had a chocolate lab for 15 years. A dear soul was he. I miss him still after he has been gone for 5years. Unbelieveable. Every time I see a painting of a Chocolate lab my heart leaps.
You are doing this breed a justice by painting one. I will be anxious to see the finished portrait.
Wow. If the rest of the painting turns out this well someone is going to be very happy!
What a beautiful painting. I especially like what you've chosen to paint - as in not the whole dog.
Oddly enough, when I first read your post title a vision of a chocolate laboratory sprang to mind.....
