Parkfield Angus

While searching for a spot to park and sketch in the nearby village of Wimblington recently I came across The Parkfield where a herd of Aberdeen Angus were casually grazing. I've never sketched a cow before so took advantage of my find before moving on to continue my 'Close to Home' sketch for the day.

In my neck of the woods (north of Chicago) angus is a term reserved for black beef cattle. I always think of your cattle as "Scottish Wooly Cows," though I know that isn't right. :)

Hi Sherry.
Terry over at EDM has informed me that they look more like 'Highlands' Personally a cow is a cow to me, I was just going on information I heard locally when I named them Angus.
We learn something new every day huh?
LOL!

Nicely done. They look like they'd make good pets.

I looked up Aberdeen Angus on google and got pictures of your wooly cows and also those huge black cows I think of as Angus. That wasn't terribly helpful!

As an aside, here (Maine) we have Oreo Cookie Cows. Front and back ends are black, and there's a wide swath of white in the middle. Their official name es Belted Galloways.

Yep, they are very woolly cows. What a lovely sketch, Anita. I'd never guess they were your first cows.

I believe they are Aberdeen Angus cows and they are great! I have also heard them called Highland, but who cares... I just love the painting! ;)
