Least We Forget

'Nature's Grace' - Acrylic on watercolour paper

I created the painting above many months ago using a statue in my garden and mixed photographic references of poppies.

'Least We Forget' -Wimblington Church War Memorial
- Coloured Pencil on Cream Paper

The war memorial at Wimblington church is my most favourite statue in the area. I felt it 'call to me' from the bypass that runs alongside the church and detoured off to find it so I could see it closer. I have since visited it many times, sometimes for just a few minutes and sometimes longer, sometimes to sit and think and sometimes to sketch. I always come away from her feeling fortunate and re-charged.

Today's sketch efforts in my Seawhite sketchbook continued with the toy theme using Harry's toy soldiers to mark this important day and finished with one of the many poppies we have all purchased throughout the week at various locations. The design on the lower right was created using a bunch of fake silk poppies I have in a vase in my studio as a reference.

These are beautiful and touching sketches, Anita. I particularly love your statue sketch and I can see how you would feel drawn to it. I had hoped to do something similar on my blog but time got away from me with having visitors most of the day so a simple word post had to do. We did mark the day with the minute's silence which certainly stirs a lot of emotions.

I've had a lovely time checking out all your recent blog entries. You are so prolific its amazing. I'm still working on the original church piece of the pulpit at St Wendreda's with carving of Jesus and one of the disciples I started 3 weeks ago!! Mind you Ive tried it in watercolour then acrylic - hated both and now working in gouache which seems to be working. Anyway, thats enough about me - love everything - glad you have another life class. My favourite are the remembrance day works. Well done.
