Life Class - Week 10

Acrylic on 20x16" canvas

I approached life class a little differently this week, usually I tackle the short 3-5 minute poses in ink and then move onto something else for the 25-30 minute poses. This week I did all 6 poses on the same surface, a 20x16" canvas, using a limited palette in acrylic.

Most of the first pose was sketched onto some masking tape I had placed over the canvas, only the values show now in the small squares left behind after the tape was removed. I like the effect, it adds a modern, geometric twist to an sensual and otherwise curvaceous subject.

It felt really good working on canvas again, especially in such a loose and free style!

This is sensational Anita!

Such creativity! And the results look mesmerizing (given how I stared at it for a whole minute). Specifically, I like the way the bodies combine and de-combine with one another, producing one big emotion. I also like the quality of the drawing itself (i.e., you are good). To offer additional consideration, i can see where experimentation with color is the concern, since it's easy to lose the overall coherency by introducing some colors that don't tie out with the entire composition. (p.s. the more I write it means the happier I am).

Thanks for painting it, and in such a wonderfully large size, no less.

Beautiful - The multiple figures, the loose painting, the soft colors, and the small squares.

Sorry, I made a boo boo in the previous comment. I wanted to say -

Anita, you are such an inspiration! I love how you think outside the square. I adore the limited palette you have used here and the overall result is awesome!

Nitsa - so glad you are working in this way. Inspirational girl. Loved the idea of masking areas with tape before you start the first figure sketch. Lots of fun and suprises. So glad Im back on line - Ive missed so much for 10 weeks.

Beautiful, Anita - I love the way this came out. We start life drawing again in a week or so, and I'm going to keep this approach in mind.
