Christmas Card Design - Gouache, Ink & Coloured Pencil
Thursday was pretty hectic so I only got to spend time with my sketchbook briefly.
I painted the yellow and red gouache shapes in my book while in the studio and then left it, later that evening I added a little ink work to turn it into a Christmas design and a few coloured pencils spots for interest. It was a lot of fun turning an existing shape into something else.
Self portrait - Watercolour - 10-15 mins
Back in the studio to lock up for the night, I couldn't resist dipping my brush into some watercolour I had laid out on a china plate and creating yet another, speedy self portrait while staring into my three way mirror. The eyes could have handled a little more distance but I do believe I detect another hint of a smile in this one!
Both of today's sketches were painted directly with no preliminary pencil sketch, I mostly work this way in my sketchbooks now, something I seem to have been taking for granted until today, when it suddenly dawned on me that the thought of creating anything without a guideline, pencil sketch or outline this time last year would have scared the crap out of me.

Well, that first painting sure is a good reminder to start thinking about Christmas!! Already!!!
Both your sketches are lovely but the portrait is awesome!!! I particularly like the 'lost and found' edges.
Well done on the self-portraits, I find them incredibly difficult to do! And I love the Christmas card :)
Nice Christmas card. I have been doing them for two weeks for a trade project. I just hope I can keep coming up with new ideas as I want them all to be originals. (25)
I got my Lamy pen today. Now I know why you like it so much. it is soooooooo smooth. Even more so than the Rotring I got because KatherineT uses one. I just put in an order for two more since I forgot or didn't know to order the converter. The one I got had one filled cartridge with it. The Hunter's Green hasn't gotten here yet. So for now I am practicing with blue.
I've thoroughly enjoyed catching up on your blog today, Anita.....lovely work as always.
