Back To Life

'Back to Life' - 7x10" - Gouache on ArchesHP

Finally got my hands on some gouache!
It's one of those many materials I've been dying to use and yesterday I finally got to play with it for the first time.
I just let rip, no pencil sketch, no references or planning, just working from imagination and allowing my emotions to pour onto the surface.
This is the result, an expressive piece that I was going to title 'Moving on' but then one of my favourite Soul II Soul tracks popped into my head and it felt perfect so I borrowed it.

Very interesting use of the colors and light! I've barely tried gouache in my Moleskine, but the texture and colors are intriguing. It might be a memory of childhood paints ... or mud. *lol*

I love the use of colors. It looks great. It's fun some times to just let it rip. You can tell you enjoyed using the gouache.

Thanks Jenny.
Yes, I think it would be quite easy to create mud with gouache! LOL!

Thankyou Michael.
I did enjoy it and I also took them along to my life session yesterday, which I'll post later today.
I think everyone should let rip once in a while!

I've never used gouache either, but your expressive figures may inspire me to try. I wonder how they would work in a monotype? That's actually what this painting reminds me of.

Thankyou Laurel

I had to look monotype up Sherry, new to me, I've no idea how they will work in this process but please do let me know if you give it a try!

THis is a very strong piece, Anita. I've heard some people say that they don't like to work with gouache because of it's consistency. I've only worked with it doing my name paintings and the little work I did in art school was using cheap paints. This is really beautiful; colors, movement, light. Wow.

Thank you!
I must say I really enjoyed using it.
