Life Class - Week 5

25 mins - Acrylic on canvas board

Today was our last life session from a set of six as the organiser was unable to secure a nude model for next week, however, we will have a model albeit clothed!
I've wanted to try paint for a couple of weeks now, so today I took just two tubes of Finity acrylic (Burnt Umber and Titanium White). The pose I chose to use paint for was by far the most difficult of the day and most people had the sense to move around to the side of the model.
I decided to take a bash at the challenge presented before me and, if I'm honest, I am really pleased with more than one area of the result. I am delighted with the feet, they were at such an extraordinary angle and can be challenging at the best of times, I feel I caught them quite well while still remaining loose, working with shapes and tones rather than minute detailing.

I can't tell you how much I have enjoyed these classes, from the moment I get up on a Tuesday until class begins I can hardly contain my excitement and the two hours pass soooooo quickly.
I have the models contact details and plan to use them until the next six sessions begin in Autumn.
I have also been busy organising portrait and costume models for my studio and hope to start sessions soon.

The human figure, such a complex array of angles, tones and emotions, I gather when a subject interests and excites you as much as this you just have to acknowledge it and work with it...and I intend to do just that!

Various hues of Inktense pencils - Between 2-5 mins each
Faber Castell crayons - 25 mins

Pigment liner - 5 mins

Really nice work, I am so intimidated by the human form.

Super drawings! I love the angle of the first one and the fact that you did it in paint is amazing! I really like that red area too in the one with the pencils, it looks quite abstract, really striking.

Wow, can't keep up with you at the moment! That 100% creativity is really in overdrive. I think your life class work is really improving...though it was so good to start with it's hard to be sure!

Wow -- all are great, but that first acrylic piece is a knockout. You should be VERY happy with it!

I like your blog, but I think that this subject is the most interesting of your last posts. Bye, Lucy Relatos.

Thankyou Felicity, working in paint felt much more comfortable than I imagined it would with such time constraints.

Your enthusiasm shows in your work. Those feet are wonderful, I like the whole painting. I wish I could loosen up like that. Those minute details are an obsession with me!

Sherie that's just how I am and why I've been spending the Summer experimenting and sketching from life as it moves, ticks and passes me by. With such little time to capture the moment I am learning to see what is important to get down on the paper and what to leave behind.
