BitterSweet!
It's been one of 'those' days!...You know the kind... a test of patience!
The wind has slapped my face all day, bringing it's friends 'snow' and hailstones' into the battle when it's arm got tired and to top it all these assaults were accurately timed to be at their most vicious while I was on foot.
By this evening I was feeling pretty sore, chilled to the bone and missing my sketchbooks!
It was at this point that I checked in on my emails to find that I had been accepted into the online group "Every Day Matters" and it was just what I needed to kick me back into gear and laugh in the face of the weather. Emma-Jane Rosenberg recommended the group to me at the recent sketchcrawl in Chatteris.
It took me a while to get to grips with the site, navigation is very different to the groups I am used to but I am thrilled to be among other addicted sketchers like myself. I quickly fell upon their weekly challenge to sketch a particular item each week. This weeks subject is 'A Bowl' and all the inspiration I needed to grab my small moleskin and try out my brand new Mitsubishi Unipin pen. I used the sketch to experiment a little with the pen and I really enjoyed working with it, it flows beautifully across the page, doesn't bleed and it's Mitsubishi ...just like my truck...reason enough for it to become my favourite new sketch mate!
I decided to sketch the sugar bowl from my Golden Jubilee tea set that sits in my glass cabinets gathering dust...Something sweet at the end of a bitter day!

Beautiful sketch and a lovely blog! Welcome to EDM!!!
Welcome. Great use of the bowl challenge. I wonder, does it hold granulated or cubed?
oh, welcome, welcome! Cold, snow? LOL and here I am complaining that the sun only peeked out for a bit today. Your sugar bowl is lovely and I look forward to seeing more! marta
Beautiful sugar bowl, nicely done! I love how you wrapped fabric around the base before drawing it, aweswome! :)
Thankyou Brenda!
Thankyou Deborah.
Right now it holds my spare studio keys, LOL!....but I used cubed n special occasions!
Freezing Marta!!! A coat of ice is glazing the Fens this morning but the sun is starting to break through which I am thrilled about because it's Wednesday (Sketchday with my good friend Joannie).
Thankyou for your kind comments on my bowl.
Thankyou so much Pugs!
I thought the stripes in the fabric would be good practice and I was right...They were! LOL!
By a spooky coincidence, I just joined EDM a couple of weeks ago! Not that you seem to need any encouragement to sketch!! Who knew Mitsubishi made pens? I'm obviously not spending enough time in art supply shops... ;) Nice job on the bowl and especially on the folds in the cloth.
Lovely work on the bowl and cloth, Anita and congratulations for working out how to post on EDM. I joined many moons ago but have never been able to work out how to post. LOL. Maybe I should try again with you and Dave there and of course, Karen supplying the challenges.
You captured the shine on the sugar bowl beautifully but gave it great texture too! Does the Mitsubishi pen have an ultrafine nib? Your drawing has the delicacy of pencil.
It is SO frustrating not being able to share new pics. I feel like the only kid who isn't allowed out to play!!
This is so beautiful! What a wonderful rendering. Welcome to EDM.
Thanx Dave!
How great that you also joined EDM.
The pen is made by 'Mitsubishi pencil co. ltd', I used it on my travels again today and I really like it!
Thankyou Robyn!
It is always a little tricky getting used to a new group format, took me a while to get my head around it.
I just added a link to my blog in the page titled 'links' and started my new message on the board by clicking on 'posts'...It seems to have worked! :)
Thanx E-J. Yes, it's a 0.1 fine nib much like the Staedtler pigment liner I was using on the sketchcrawl.
I feel for you not being able to share your work right now, I find it an important aspect of my motivation...Can you not use a digital camera instead of a scanner?
Thanx for the kind comments and the welcome Sherie!
