I love John Atkinson Grimshaw's work - I know he can be considered a bit chocolate box by some, but I'm secretly (well, not THAT secretly) a huge fan, and I'm surprised I've never come across this guy in reading about him. Same sort of era - both northern. Really interesting reading about him, and you've done a wonderful job of capturing the muted colours and softness of his portraits. I am drawn to gouache but it seems as foreign to me, a watercolorist, as oils.
