Mums Vase
A difficult night full of much needed emotional release but that's ok, I gained a soft comfort from it....I needed it.
Not sure where or whom Mum got this vase from but it is very pretty.
Adjustments
Clearing my parents home has brought about adjustments in my own, there is so much I just can't let go of...silly things really that mean so much. My Mums dressing table, her 'special' china, ornaments, etc.
So, on top of the already huge work load we have, we are adjusting to enable us to fit her dressing table in the bedroom which will also give me a walk in wardrobe enabling me to move my clothes from bags and free up space for large boxes of family photos...it's like a storage circle of events..One thing moves to make room for something new and then that thing awaits it's new home.
Right now I have everything that is currently 'homeless' in my studio stored in huge bags.
However, the adjustments we have made look fabulous, everything has fitted in just like it belongs and I am so happy to be surrounded by things that ignite precious memories.
I was thrilled to find a place for the dresser top in my kitchen because it gave me the perfect place to display my recent collection of coffee cups
Sugar and Tea
Still sorting through my parents home and managing to sketch a little of it's contents along the way.

Linda The Pretty
My Mums daily cup, used daily by my Dad after we lost her and now by myself. Cheap, cheerful and rather unglamourous but to me it's a little like The Holy Grail....Priceless!
Houghton, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire UK
After our long lunch at Hartford Mill I drove Joan into Houghton and, after browsing some quaint shops, we took refreshment outside the 3 Horseshoes pub where we did our final sketching before heading home.

On our third day together, I drove Joan into Huntingdon for lunch at Hartfod Mill; a pub/restaurant situated along the river. A quick change of seats after lunch and another sketch.

By Jove, Burwell, Cambridge UK
On our second day together, Joan and I took a trip into Burwell to visit By Jove Tearooms. My second visit, Joans first.
We were blessed with such wonderful weather that we spent the whole afternoon here, changing seats frequently!
After our lunch we decided to sit outside for a while and make the most of the sunshine. After our first sketch we ordered afternoon tea and I chose the Empire scone...OMG! It was HUGE!!!...and totally delicious!
The tearoom is an old school house, so I decided to sketch the bell before we left.

Joan came to stay for a few days recently. She arrived just after 1pm, we ate lunch together and then went off just after 3pm for a sketch in Ramsey before dinner. We sat beside the church and I sketched the building across the green.

Storage II
Running through a few designs for a cupboard to house some larger kitchen appliances and the ever awkward ironing board and hoover. This is my design with the porch window left in situ. This design also includes a place for our beloved family whippet 'Scobey' and a shelf for my Dads Charles Dickens collection. The door is decorated with an antique mirror I have. On the right is the interior design of the LHS cupboard. A small shelf at window level houses Mums red poppy floral arrangement or her china jug and bowl...I hadn't decided which.
You can view the cupboard finished here:

A Modern Twist
This antique looking telephone, that I once gifted my parents, has touch dialing, redial and recall!...Modern, but so much better looking than most.

Chilling
After a day sorting out my Parents kitchen, bidding on a dresser to house my Mums china and ordering a new sofa...I chilled with my sketchbook and a much needed Italian blend.

Final Entry
This is the final entry of this journal created on 22nd July, the day before we lost Dad.
There were a few pages left to be filled but it felt right to begin a new journal when I finally picked up a sketchbook again in the middle of August.
It has been the most painful 18 months, first losing Mum and then Dad to terminal cancer. The pain continues combined with the most magical of memories we created in those few months together, battling side by side.
With me throughout were my journals, a place to hide, to scream..a trusted friend in waiting rooms and a stimulant when I thought I couldn't stay awake another moment....so many hours with so little sleep.
I hope browsing these pages has not made you feel uncomfortable, it was not my intention, I have simply posted each spread as I always have since the very first day I started journalling. I see no reason to censorship emotion, life's challenges shape us into who we are and who I am is what defines my journals.
I would love to report that I am fine and these heart wrenching days are now behind me, but I am not...They are not...All is still so very painful. I cope, some days much better than others.
Thank you so much to all who sent messages, emails and comments of support, prayers and friendship, they were most appreciated.
And so, whether we feel it should or not, life goes on...almost regardless!
A new journal begins.
