Sketched while taking a bath, sitting rather uncomfortably at the tap end balancing my sketchbook on damp knees.
On the right, the greens in my current palette and a little test to see if I could possibly replace olive with an undersea and winsor yellow mix.

I've had an awful cold and Sunday was probably my worse day, I felt terrible! After our visitors left I wanted to sketch (I don't like leaving my sketching for a day) so I did a quick outline of some flowers my guests had gifted me and then turned to my imagination for the interior sketch, which was fun!

I've passed the Old Bridge in Huntingdon a thousand times and always wanted to go in, so Saturday I drove out for a visit. Fantastic place for sketching and although my stay was pretty short this time I do plan to return with my sketchbook real soon and try out their cream teas.
The staff were very friendly and attentive and the views from the outside terrace look onto the river, so will be a great Summer spot!

This is what I carry in my bag everyday, along with a sketchbook and a camera film case full of water.

Two days in one!

A couple of quick doodles; one from the dining room table looking into the kitchen and one of my hair straighteners cooling down on the studio table with my candy striped dressing gown thrown over the wicker chair.

The latest entry in my Italian Tour Preparation Sketchbook.

My lounge, through to my dining room, through to my studio.

Earlier this week I had a big clean up in the studio, brought in one of the white wicker chairs from the Summer house and popped it infront of the big studio window...I love these chairs.
It's nice and light, so I can carry it around the house and position it anywhere which will enable me to sketch a from a few different angles around the home in comfort.
When I arrived back from visiting Dad in hospital, company had turned up, so I filled the rest of the page with decorative papers from the collection I inherited from my Mum rather than sketches.

Spent a while in the day room at Hinchingbrooke Hospital waiting for Dad to have a drain fitted to his lung. They believe infection to be the cause of the fluid build up due to his pneumonia, which is the diagnosis we were hoping for.
When I finally got home, I settled down on the sofa with a glass (or two) of wine!

A day of cleaning and re-arranging ended with me colapsed on the sofa sketching the bra I'd hung over the arm of the sofa earlier to be put away in the bedroom.

Another view of my lounge, this time sketched from the sofa in the previous post concentrating on the far end.

A Chinese Imari-Style teapot from Belton House, Grantham, Lincolnshire fills the last page of my Daler Rowney Ebony sketchbook. I visited Belton back in 2007, you can view my location sketches here: http://artbyanita2.blogspot.com/2007/06/belton-house-lincolnshire-uk.html
The Ebony sketchbook has alot of pages and it was a pleasure to see it fill up. The only thing I found a little frustrating is that it often took quite some time for pages to dry and this held me up a bit at times. The English weather was not helpful, I'm sure it would make a great Summer journal. I overcome this by popping it on the floor of my car and turning the foot heater on full blast!
I have already started my next journal, an A5 Jacksons book made by Seawhite. I'm already using one of these for my Italian Trip Prep sketchbook which you can view here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/anitadavies/sets/72157624983112980/

I find chairs very difficult at the best of times, especially as I work directly in ink with no pencil guidelines, but this wheelchair was the ultimate challenge!!!
A bit wonky and probably wouldn't stand up to health and safety but overall I am pleased with my quik effort.

Still in Burghley House but this time in Queen Elizabeth's Bedroom. Not sure why they called it so because she never actually stayed in Burghley, during her visit there was an outbreak of small pox in the house that prevented her from doing so

My aim this year is to widen my view in my sketchbooks as often as I can. To try to capture an 'essence' of where I am by sketching at least one spread where I get down more than a detail study. When in cafes I tend to sketch someone sipping coffee, a free model is always tempting, but that person could be drinking that coffee anywhere right? With my Italy tour under 100 days away I want to practice getting more information down so that when I return I have a real feel for Italy; the cafe, museum, hotel, or street that I am in.
With that in mind, and the oranate and intricate details I will be facing, I turned to my Stately home programmes the other night for inspiration after a hectic day.
Burghley is one of my favs. I tried to get down enough of the room, to give me an essence, in a limited time (something else I will be facing on my tour, time restrictions).
