My Theme is 'Anita Davies' (that's me!) and I figured a self portrait was as good as any place to start this journey!

I've used the folded tab on the right for text, to read the text click on the image to enlarge it.

Created using Noodlers Bullet Proof Black ink in a Lamy Safari fountain pen with an EF nib, watercolour and a red Micron 05 pen.

Art House Re-Loaded

SBP-Reload1
Originally uploaded by Anita Davies

After talking to others that are taking part in the Art House Sketchbook Project I discovered that the paper in the sketchbook they provide (Moleskine Cahier) is very thin. This does not appeal to me at all. So I decided to re-load the book. Impatient as I am, I have started and finished this proceedure BEFORE the book has even arrived, so fingers crossed it all works out.
I put my new pages together by taking sections from an 8" Hahnemuhle sketchbook, stitching them together and binding the back with picture tape to secure.
The Moleskine cahier is 8.5x5.5" so rather than cut the pages down I have folded them back in on themselves, which I think makes the book rather interesting and gives me a little more room to work with. The original cahier sketchbook has approx 60 pages, I have not added this many to my re-load as I believe it will be too thick for the cover to wrap around, the clever fold on each page will make it appear nice and thick without straining the spine of the original.

Ellies Life Book Update

I've decided to concentrate on her shoes over the years, her Mum loves shoes and you all know how much I adore them so I'm sure Ellie will have the same passion for footwear. It's going to be so much fun seeing the changes in fashion through her years. It will also be easier than documenting her toys because her shoes can be dropped off to me as she grows out of them, which is exactly what happened this week.
So, here we start with Ellies footwear...aged 2, size 8. I have also sketched a Summer shoe which I'll scan in later and hopefully snap a picture of the book unfolded.

New Sketching Project

The Sketchbook Project: 2011

I've done it!...I have just joined the sketchbook project run by the Art House Co-Op.
I am terrible at making decisions so choosing a theme and a Moleskine Cahier cover colour were an absolute nightmare for me, it took me 3 coffee's and almost an hour to make my choices and finally checkout!
But I did it!
I'm in!
I went for a red cover...love red! I selected the theme 'Your Name' and will be adding a little to that, so my theme will be:

ANITA DAVIES: A SHOE LOVING, CAFFEINE ADDICTED SKETCH-A-HOLIC

A nice list of a few of my vices, giving me a wide span for subject matter.

Now I have to wait for my sketchbook to arrive...Impatience is another of my vices!

I had fun with this one, scribbling away without a care.
Such a fun reference surely deserves an experimental approach!

Ellie

You may remember the life book I started for Ellie, it's a beautiful handmade book made by Kala you can see it HERE
I haven't made an entry in it for such a long time and I thought it was time I caught up, so here she is on her 2nd Birthday (she has actually just celebrated her 3rd).
Already the accordian book is revealing her growth and stirring memories...I am so pleased I started this project, by the time she reaches 18 it will be a wonderful stroll through her childhood and the perfect gift.

The ink is a new purchase and I wanted to try it out. I sketched it while lying on the sofa watching TV and as a result my pad was not upright and the ref was at an odd angle which resulted in a shortening of Tammys' face, may try one of her other fabulous references for a better likeness later....love this ink though!

Peacocks Tearooms

I went from The 5 Miles Inn, straight onto Peacocks Tearooms for another coffee and a chance to sketch some of their wonderful and varied china. This is the cup and saucer I got served this visit...I don't think I've had the same china yet!

Met a lovely group of people, two of which paint, and gave them some information on my Lamy fountain pen and Noodlers ink....I'm beginning to think I should get commission from both companies...wouldn't that be nice!

5 Miles Inn

More catch up!

This was my first visit to The 5 Miles Inn in Upware, Ely in Cambridgeshire, suggested by my Dad, and what a wonderful spot.

The latte was superb, the service was friendly (they even filled my waterbrush for me behind the bar....sadly with just plain water!) and the scenery was simply beautiful.

I stopped just long enough to finish my latte and mint chocolate but I hear the food is fantastic so I shall deffinately be going back soon!

Sophie

Still catching up posting journal entries from June.

I used my bullet proof black ink by Noodlers on this spread along with my hot pink Lamy Safari.
