Heacham Break 2009 - Day 1

I'm back from my 5 day/ 4 night break in Heacham along the Norfolk coast!
It's always difficult balancing being in the moment with my family and filling my journal but I did manage a few quick sketches each day.
Here are my pages from day 1.

Off To The Beach

I'm off to the Norfolk coast again today for the week, this time I'm returning to Heacham and staying at the same holiday park as I did in 2007. You can view my sketches from that holiday HERE.
In my absence, I have lined up some scheduled daily posts I hope you will enjoy.
See you all Friday!

Artistic Appreciation

On Thursday evening I gave a talk on Art Journaling to the over 50's club in the village, I was made very welcome and the group seemed to appreciate my many journals very much.
One of my students, Jane, came for her art lesson that morning, fresh back from a holiday in Spain, and gifted me a filligree pendant and chain she had purchased there. It is beautiful.

Zen

Let your mind wander in simplicity, blend your spirit with the vastness, follow along with things the way they are, and make no room for personal views-then the world will be governed....Chuang-tzu.

Angels and Demons

What an amazing film!

I liked it even more than The Da Vinci Code and found myself screwing my neck more than once to try to get a good view of the Sistine Chapel ceiling.....Like only a mad woman would while watching a DVD!

The day before saw my scraping around for a refernce to sketch something. Strange that I decided on Kerry Katona, a woman who is certainly no angel and seems to be facing a hoard of her own demons recently.

Afternoon Rendezvous

After completing numerous phonecalls, figures and paperwork, I took a drive out to The Rendezvous Cafe in Ramsey for lunch and a well earned latte.

Retail Therapy

Ink & coloured pencil in journal

One of the tops I purchased on a recent shopping trip and a visit to Mepal Outdoor Centre, where I treated myself to a full english breakfast.

I ended up at Mepal after visiting my favourite local cafe, Bluebells, only to find that Mary and Jean have taken early retirement due to ill health...I do hope they are ok, I shall so miss them and their wonderful food.

The breakfast at Mepal was delicious though and I guess the new cafe there will come in useful now.

Jane's Hibiscus

You may remember this post where I showed you a few pieces from a student of mine, Jane. This piece was finished a few weeks ago and I thought you may like to see the final in all it's glory.
Well done Janie!

St John The Evangelist

Waiting for Jake to come out of rugby training, I pulled up opposite The Church of St John The Evangelist in March to capture the amazing pink sky that had formed as a backdrop.

All Grown Up

My youngest started secondary school last Thursday, a heart wrenching moment that saw me saying goodbye to another part of the baby I once knew.
He looked stunning all dressed up in his school blazer and black slacks, striped tie hiding the buttons on his crispy white shirt. So handsome. So big!

And so another life chapter begins...

Hunstanton

Some very quick sketches of our recent day trip to Hunstanton. Harry and I ate lunch in the garden at The Lodge Hotel in Old Hunstanton before heading to the beach for a relaxing couple of hours together.

Exhibition At St Matthews - Update

SOLD

The exhibition closed today and I went to collect my works to find that this one had found a new home.
This was painted in a new approach for me, a plein air using mixed media, which made the sale all the more encouraging.

Woburn Safari Park

On Saturday we finally got around to taking Harry to Woburn Safari Park in Bedfordshire.
Last time we took both the kids Harry was just a baby, so everything seemed pretty new to him this time around. My parents came with us and I prepared a picnic, which we ate on the grass in the company of giraffes and zebras, before heading back around the park again in the car.
It was a wonderful day!
