Exhibition At St Matthew's

You may remember I started the year experimenting with landscapes; using mixed media, working plein air and also working up paintings from sketches I made on location.

Each year I am invited to exhibit works at St Matthew's church at Sutton bridge and this year I have decided to be brave and enter a few of the pieces from my 'mixed views' project.

I decided to frame 'Nene Bank at Benwick' (the middle one) in portrait format, which I believe overcomes some of the problems I felt it had when I painted it. (You can read my notes here) I also like the suprise element it offers to have a landscape framed in portrait format.

All three are mounted on ivory in light wood box frames for a contemporary feel, which looks clean and allows the artwork to 'speak' without interruption.

The show runs from 29th August - 4 September. I have been invited to attend on the 29th with my sketchbook in tow, so if you are planning on taking a look you may find me huddled up in a corner scribbling ....Come over and say 'Hi'.

Passing Time In Cambridge

My eldest has been attending an intensive course at college and I had some time to kill while I waited for him after dropping him off.

I spent some time in the museum of zoology, after grabbing a coffee on the square opposite Great St. Mary's church.
I took my neocolor sticks along to play with.

Sunny Side Up

Playing around with my neocolor sticks.

I was recently asked by Sketchalina if she could include a journal spread of mine in the 'cool resource' section of her new journalling book...flattered, of course, I agreed.

Fate, Destiny and Miracles

Last Wednesday, my eldest Son, Jake had a road accident. His truck flipped and ended up upside down in one of the many local dykes. The truck roof was touching the seats, it is as flat as a pancake. His quick thinking to tuck his arms into his chest and curl up right at the crucial moment along with the fact that he was driving a very sturdy 4x4 saved his life.
He managed to release his seatbelt and dig his way out of the bank with his bare hands.

His injuries?...Two small bruises from the seatbelt and a grazed elbow! He didn't even ache the next morning!!!

I did!

He refuses to believe luck had anything to do with it...I quote 'I believe in fate, it just wasn't my time...I'm obviously destined for greater things'.

I love that he thinks so positive, I admire his strength, and I adore his wit, not to mention his heart wrenching smile...My life is so much richer with him in it.

Sideboard Stash

I adore crosses, always have, and own many pieces of both fine and dress jewellery. This particular dress piece is rather large, silver and hangs on a black cord.
I'm unsure where I purchased it but I've had it some years now and found it while rummaging around in the sideboard drawer looking for something entirely different.

Potions and Lotions

I seem to have built up quite a stash of lotions and potions in the studio recently...?

Wells Summer Break - Day 6

This is the last of my Wells break sketches, as always, I feel I could have produced more but there has to be a balance between family and art. The few pages I managed will hopefully provide Harry with a record for him to look back on in the coming years.

Wells Summer Break - Day 1

The first day of our break at the cottage in Wells-Next-The-Sea.

At the top of the road is a farm with ducks, goats and Lamas.

Sandra had left some hand picked sweet peas to greet us.

This little tea pot caught my eye on my last visit.

Two journal spreads created the Sunday before heading off to Wells.

I'm currently scanning the journal entries from my trip to the cottage and hope to have some posted here in the next couple of days.

Window Views

A spread in my Jacksons square sketchbook, created the Saturday before I went on holiday. The fenland sky is just amazing and on this particular day it changed by the second. I managed to capture part of the sunset, very quickly, before it vanished into the fields.

Off To The Cottage Again

I'm all packed and ready to go off to the cottage in Wells-Next-The-Sea again, this time for a whole week.
It's carnival week this week in Wells, so there should be plenty going on to fill my journal pages during our daily walks into the quayside.

I'll be leaving you with some scheduled posts with photographs of the cottage where I am staying and the quay, so I continue my record of posting daily.

Enjoy!

See you soon!

Big Fat Rain

Thursday brought some unusual weather; sunshine, rain, hailstones, thunder...You name it, we had it here in the Fens, switching from minute to minute.
Impossible to build plans around but so beautiful to watch the changing sky from the studio window.
