A Date With Harry

Managed to grab a day out with my youngest, Harry, during the Easter break before he went back to school, I love our trips together.

We lunched at The Hartford Mill in Huntingdon, a beautiful place in a wonderful location on the river. When we finished eating we took our hot drinks and coats outside and sat with the ducks and swans for a while just chatting and laughing together.

Just up the road from the Mill is Huntingdon Garden Centre where you can purchase all sorts of delights such as animals, fish, plants, candles, organic produce, books, art materials, wellies, glass wear, etc....etc...etc....oh and Mrs Bridges old fashioned sweets in glass jars, which was our main reason for popping in. I got pear drops and Harry got strawberry bon bons. We grabbed a drink and a sketch in the Terrace Cafe before heading home.

Holy Moley!

Here it is the Folio Moleskine, it arrived this morning...Woohoo!
It is 30x21cm in size and filled with 60 pages of watercolour paper. It is landscape format, like all the watercolour Moleys, but it is huge so I'll let it off.

I haven't used it yet but I do find myself stroking it regularly.

Just A Minute

Bank holiday was very busy so on Monday I filled a spread in my journal by making one minute sketches...I managed three.

Meet Joey and Chandler

I spent Easter Sunday with my Aunts while the boys visited a country show where they purchased Joey and Chandler, two Khaki Campbell ducks.
They are so cute!

Gifts

Above is the teddy I gifted to my Mum as part of her Mothers' Day stash, too cute to resist, and below is a very quick sketch of the flowers she received from a friend recently.

Both images are in my square Hand*Book journal.

9x14cm Hahnemuhle Travel Journal

I've started a new daily journal and decided to take a break from the A6 Venezias I have been using to try out the Hahnemuhle I purchased from the SAA

The paper is similar in texture to the Hand*Book journals and the elastic strap and leather cover give them a Moleskine appearance.

The 11th April was Worldwide Sketchcrawl day, I spent it with my Mum at her home rather than venturing out and completed the day with a spread of my pretty new perfume bottle back at home in the evening.

Tesco Cafe

Two recent trips to my local Tesco supermarket for the weekly grocery shop. Having a latte with my sketchbook in their cafe before I start my shop makes the whole process so much more enjoyable.

You can view all of the images in my 'Tesco' Moley (small watercolour Moleskine sketchbook) so far in my Flickr set HERE.

Waiting

Waiting is so much easier when one has a sketchbook and pen.
The page below was made up of 30 second - 1 minute studies while the young lady in the top sketch sat still for a little longer.

Stepping Out

Took my group outside for their lesson at the beginning of the month where they sketched 'plein air' for the first time, concentrating on the view opposite the studio across the Fen. This is the quick sketchbook entry I made during the lesson.

Greetings

Lost for a subject but itching to sketch, I decided to use a couple of illustrations from my Birthday cards as references to complete the final spread in my first Venezia A6 sketchbook of 2009.

U Turn

Benwick - Watercolour in Canson sketchbook ©Anita Davies

When collecting Harry from school, I make a u-turn on the corner of a farmyard to face back towards home for our return journey. This is the road further up past the farm, I painted it from my car, very quickly and loosely in watercolour before pulling back out onto the road.

My Birthday

I've had the most wonderful day with my family, spoiled rotten with birthday goodies.

I managed to spend a little time with my eldest Son before he went off to a training course this morning, I spent the afternoon at the seaside and then returned home to a chinese meal with my parents once my eldest got back home.

It has been very special.

I even got my new studio steps built from 300 year old bricks recycled from a building in London.

Next job is the white exterior plastics to cover that gloomy looking board.

Morning Break

Hospital Road - Ink & Watercolour ©Anita Davies

Parked up at Hospital Road in Doddington, a couple of weeks ago, after dropping Harry at school and sketched this scene.

My sketchbook was tilted into my lap at an angle, hence the crooked horizon.

Noodlers And Hand*Book

Huntingdon Hospital - Noodler's ink in Han*Book journal

I had thought that the absorbant surface of the Hand*Book pages would cause bleeding problems with the Lexington Gray Noodlers' ink but it took quite nicely.

Visiting

Hinchingbrooke Hospital Main Entrance - Ink & Watercolour

Trying out one of my brand new Hand*book journals, the blue square one.
Never used a Hand*Book before. The paper is more absorbant than I'm used to but I'm sure I'll get used to it in time. The square format is nice to work with and the size allows a double page scan on an A4 scanner.
